GTA 6 moves the series from GTA V’s Los Santos and Blaine County to Vice City and the wider state of Leonida. That change is confirmed. A precise, like-for-like size comparison is not established by the official material reviewed here, so this is a comparison of settings and evidence—not an invented square-mile ranking.
The useful comparison at a glance
| Question | GTA V versus GTA VI |
|---|---|
| Main setting | Los Santos and Blaine County versus Vice City and Leonida. |
| What we can inspect | A released GTA V world versus selected GTA VI official material and previews. |
| Named GTA VI destinations | Vice City, Leonida Keys, Grassrivers, Port Gellhorn, Ambrosia and Mount Kalaga. |
| Exact size ratio | No verified, consistently measured ratio established here. |
| Fan-made layouts | Useful for evidence tracking, but not Rockstar’s final navigation map. |
Rockstar’s GTA V material identifies its Los Santos and Blaine County setting. For the new game, Rockstar’s Only in Leonida presentation introduces the state’s characters and named destinations. These are the strongest starting points before reaching for a community overlay.
Vice City is not the whole of Leonida
Think of Vice City as the headline city, not a substitute name for the entire map. Our Leonida overview separates the state from its individual destinations. That distinction prevents a city-to-state comparison from being presented as if it measures equivalent areas.
A list of regions also does not reveal their exact boundaries. Naming a national park or a port tells us something about the places Rockstar wants to introduce; it does not establish how many streets, interiors or traversable square miles each contains.

The confirmed destinations worth following
- Leonida Keys: the island setting linked to Jason’s early biography.
- Port Gellhorn: a separately named destination, not another label for Vice City.
- Grassrivers: follow the verified location profile for its imagery and evidence.
- Ambrosia: another named part of the state.
- Mount Kalaga National Park: the park destination in Rockstar’s presentation.
Those profiles do the detailed source work so this comparison does not need to reproduce six separate location articles. The important change is variety within a new setting. A larger list of destinations, however, is not mathematical proof of a larger playable area.
Why many size comparisons are not measuring the same thing
A credible area comparison must define its boundaries. Does it include ocean? Does it count inaccessible terrain? Is it measuring the full rendered world, the explorable land or the road network? Without consistent definitions, two apparently precise numbers can describe very different things.
Travel time is a different metric again. A route depends on the chosen vehicle, road shape, traffic and whether the start and finish are comparable. A short drive in one city cannot establish the total size of another game. Screenshots also need an established scale before distances can be read from them.
Flow Games reports Nelson comparing Vice City at twice Los Santos’s size and built-up areas outside the city at eleven times the previous amount. Those are attributed city and built-area comparisons—not a measured ratio for the complete maps. The separate map-size and playtime report covers other circulating claims.
More area is not the only meaningful change
For a player, the quality of a world also depends on what happens between destinations: route choices, readable neighborhoods and the variety of places worth stopping. Those are useful criteria for a future review, not numbers that can be filled in before the game is available to test.
Dazed’s reporting with Rockstar describes extensive real-world research around Miami and its surrounding culture. That helps explain the setting’s focus. It does not quantify how many buildings players can enter or guarantee that every street shown in promotional material is freely accessible.

How to use GTA6State’s location tools responsibly
The location database organizes sourced places, while the Leonida Atlas provides the site’s map experience. Treat community reconstruction and approximate marker placement as interpretation, not an official minimap or a guarantee of final geography.
For the narrative reason these places matter, the story overview connects Leonida to the protagonists and the official premise. That is a firmer link than a speculative route across an unfinished fan map.
Quick questions
Is GTA 6’s exact map size confirmed here?
No. This comparison does not establish a measured area or a precise GTA V size ratio.
Is Vice City the entire map?
No. Rockstar presents Vice City within the broader Leonida setting and names other destinations.
Is a fan map useless?
No. It can organize visible evidence and hypotheses. The problem is labeling an approximation as Rockstar’s final map.
