Rockstar has not published an official square-mile or square-kilometer size for the GTA 6 map. A creator who visited Rockstar North reports that the world is about twice the size of GTA V’s map and three times the size of Red Dead Redemption 2’s. Those are reported relative comparisons, not a released map measurement.
A size chart is only as useful as the measurements behind it. The confirmed location guide shows the places Rockstar has named; those names cannot establish an area. For the setting and regional variety, see the Leonida profile.
What is official, reported and still unknown
| Claim | Evidence status | Safe conclusion |
|---|---|---|
| Six featured Leonida destinations | Official Rockstar showcase | The world spans a city, islands, wetlands, coastal and industrial towns, and northern mountain wilderness. |
| About 2× GTA V’s map | Reported by TGG after a Rockstar North visit; repeated by VGC | A relative comparison, without published boundaries or calculation. |
| About 3× Red Dead Redemption 2’s map | Reported by the same visit account | A scope comparison, not an official area value for either game. |
| Exact GTA 6 area in mi² or km² | Not published in the reviewed Rockstar material | Unknown; no precise number should be presented as confirmed. |
TGG’s first-hand video account says the comparisons came from his Rockstar North visit. VGC’s report attributes the figures to that visit and also relays a Vice City-versus-Los Santos comparison. The careful wording is “reported from the visit,” not “Rockstar published an official map size.”

Why the ratios do not produce square kilometers
A ratio only becomes a usable area when the reference area and measurement method are defined. Here, the public report does not provide a polygon, state whether open water is counted, or define “playable area.” Community estimates for GTA V and Red Dead Redemption 2 also vary because they use different coastlines, water coverage and inaccessible terrain.
Multiplying an unofficial RDR2 estimate by three would preserve every uncertainty in the starting estimate and add uncertainty about what the reported comparison measured. The result might look precise to two decimal places while having no verified basis. This guide therefore publishes no derived GTA 6 square-kilometer figure.
Map area is not the same as city density
A larger boundary does not tell us how many buildings can be entered, how frequently activities appear or how long travel takes. Vice City may concentrate streets, businesses and crowds; Grassrivers and Mount Kalaga use space for water, ridges and trails. Vehicle speed, road shape, mission routing and locked areas can all change how large the world feels.
The dedicated Vice City map guide records named districts and reported landmarks without treating them as a measured grid. For a direct generation-to-generation comparison, see GTA 6 map vs GTA 5; that page handles what has changed rather than pretending the current evidence is a survey.
What would count as a reliable measurement
- A Rockstar map with an explicit scale or published area figure.
- A finished in-game map whose accessible boundary can be tested consistently.
- A stated rule for land, water, interiors and inaccessible terrain.
- Reproducible measurements rather than a traced community outline with assumed scale.
The Leonida Atlas remains useful for evidence and place discovery, but it is a community reconstruction and cannot settle the size question. Until a defined measurement exists, the strongest answer combines the reported ratios with an explicit “exact area unknown.”
Questions readers ask
Is the GTA 6 map officially three times the size of RDR2?
No published Rockstar map or area figure establishes that measurement. Three times RDR2 is a reported comparison from TGG’s Rockstar North visit and should stay attributed to that account.
How many square kilometers is the GTA 6 map?
Unknown. The reviewed official sources do not give a square-kilometer or square-mile area, and converting fan estimates would create false precision.
Does a bigger map mean longer travel times?
Not necessarily. Roads, vehicle speed, terrain, mission access and fast-travel rules all affect journey length, and the current sources do not support exact travel times.
