GTA 6 officially supports both Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S. Rockstar and the Xbox product listing name Xbox Series X|S. Series S is not an unconfirmed extra version. The unanswered questions concern how the game will look and perform on each machine, not whether Series S is included.

Series S is supported; its exact compromises are not specified
A shared platform label tells us which hardware is eligible. It does not tell us whether the consoles use the same internal resolution, shadows, texture settings or frame-rate option. Those are separate technical details, and a support announcement cannot substitute for them.
That distinction matters when discussion jumps from “Series S is less powerful” to a made-up claim about missing missions or a specific low resolution. Hardware comparisons can explain why people have questions. They cannot supply the game’s settings menu before Rockstar or a reliable test does.
Our performance evidence guide keeps reports about development builds separate from announced launch modes. There is no frame-rate table here filled with predictions simply because both consoles need a row.

What can we say about Series X advantages?
For GTA VI specifically, a claim that Series X offers a certain resolution, a particular ray-tracing feature or a faster mode needs game-specific evidence. “Optimized for Xbox Series X|S” is a platform designation, not a guarantee that every supported game offers every feature advertised for the console family.
If you already have Series S, official support is the relevant starting point. If you are deciding between platforms, our console buying comparison explains the decisions you can make now and the ones that should wait for technical evidence.
Choose the edition, then check the delivery format
Use the Standard versus Ultimate breakdown for the actual contents rather than guessing that a premium edition changes the technical version. The current preorder status lives in the Launch Hub so a checkout decision does not depend on an old paragraph here.
For a boxed purchase, read the format line carefully. Rockstar describes Standard’s box as containing a download code, not a disc. Check the Xbox platform designation and your account’s region before redemption. Retail delivery and the ability to download are distinct from the moment the game becomes playable.
A download also needs an installation plan. Our storage guide covers the evidence gap around the final requirement and how to check your own console without relying on a viral file-size graphic.
Do not confuse an Xbox purchase with a subscription announcement
A store page offering a game for purchase is not, by itself, confirmation of day-one Game Pass inclusion. Nor does a console license automatically establish PC entitlement, Xbox Play Anywhere or cloud streaming. Look for an explicit statement covering the particular service before spending money on that assumption.
The same distinction applies to hardware generations. Xbox One is a separate compatibility question, while a PC edition still needs its own announcement. Neither follows from the fact that Microsoft sells games across several devices.
Quick questions
Is GTA 6 coming to Xbox Series S?
Yes. Series S is included in Rockstar’s official Xbox Series X|S platform listing.
Does Series X have a confirmed 60 FPS mode?
The official information checked for this guide does not establish one. A higher-end console is not proof of a specific mode.
Is this an Xbox-only release?
No. PS5 is also an officially supported launch platform; see the PS5 guide for its sourced feature details.
For the other console family, read the PS5 and PS5 Pro guide.

For console-specific purchase and preparation questions, read the dedicated Xbox Series X guide or Xbox Series S guide. Both are officially supported; the final game-specific graphics settings remain a separate question.
