Rockstar has not announced a GTA 6 PC release date, a Steam launch or official PC system requirements as of September 8, 2026. PS5 and Xbox Series X|S are the announced platforms. If you play exclusively on PC, there is no confirmed launch window or hardware specification to plan a purchase around.
What would count as a PC announcement?
A platform announcement needs to come from Rockstar or an authorized store carrying its product. Console footage, a retailer placeholder and a prediction based on older games answer different questions. None establishes a PC version's date, price or distribution plan.
There is interest in a shorter wait this time. Journalist Andy Robinson has discussed industry talk about PC timing, covered in our report on his comments. That remains attributed reporting. It is not a preorder date or a commitment from the developer.
The previous waits varied considerably
Recent Rockstar releases give some context for the discussion, but no dependable formula for the next game.
| Game | First console release | First PC release | Approximate wait |
|---|---|---|---|
| GTA IV | April 29, 2008 | December 2, 2008 | 7 months |
| GTA V | September 17, 2013 | April 14, 2015 | 19 months |
| Red Dead Redemption 2 | October 26, 2018 | November 5, 2019 | Just over a year |
These are release intervals, not production schedules. They do not reveal when work on a port began or which part of development determined its release. Adding one of those gaps to GTA 6's console date produces a forecast, not new information.
A PC date and a Steam date can be different
Red Dead Redemption 2 provides a useful example. Its PC announcement set a November 5, 2019 release through Rockstar's launcher and other retailers, while placing Steam availability in December. That means a PC announcement alone would not necessarily settle when you can buy a game on your preferred storefront.
For GTA 6, wait for the named stores and their official product links. Check whether any future offer is for the game itself, an add-on or an account-dependent entitlement before paying.
There is no verified PC specification to build around
No official minimum or recommended hardware list has been published. A set of processor, graphics-card, memory and storage suggestions circulating online should therefore be treated as a prediction, even if it looks like a polished specification table.
When official requirements arrive, the useful comparison will include the settings and performance target behind them. A recommendation for 1080p with reduced settings tells you little about a different resolution or frame-rate target.
- Hardware: compare the listed CPU, graphics card, video memory and system memory with your existing machine.
- Storage: use the published installation requirement and any stated drive requirement.
- Performance: look for the resolution, preset and target frame rate attached to a recommendation.
- Benchmarks: check results from the released PC version before making an expensive upgrade solely for this game.
Price, editions and mod support remain separate questions
A console edition does not establish a PC price, bonus package or entitlement. Those details need to be checked again if a PC version is announced. The same applies to mod tools and compatibility with existing community projects: a history of PC modding does not promise a particular editor or supported workflow for GTA 6.
If playing at the announced console launch is your priority, the launch checklist covers the available options. If you are waiting for PC, keep your next hardware purchase tied to games with known requirements. You can make a much better GTA 6 decision once Rockstar has supplied a date, stores and specifications.
