No: GTA 6 is not coming to PS4 under the announced launch plans. PlayStation’s official GTA VI page explicitly says it is not playable on PlayStation 4. That covers the PS4 question more directly than a fan theory about how demanding the game might be.
There is a useful distinction here between “not announced” and an explicit platform statement. PlayStation has supplied the latter for PS4. We do not need to invent a technical explanation or guess at a cancellation to answer the question.
What about PS4 Pro?
PS4 Pro is not PS5 Pro. The similar names are easy to misread in a search result or a shop listing, but the official PS5 Pro Enhanced label does not add PS4 Pro compatibility. Check the exact generation printed on a product, rather than treating every “Pro” mention as interchangeable.
The PS5 platform guide covers the supported PlayStation hardware and separates ordinary PS5 support from the Pro enhancement label. It does not promise a particular frame rate on either.

Can you buy the wrong version by mistake?
Being able to view a product page in a browser is not the same as owning hardware that can run it. Before payment, check the platform line, account region and product type. An add-on is not a base game, and a subscription promotion is not a substitute for the supported console.
Be equally careful with physical packaging. Rockstar’s announced boxed Standard format contains a code for downloading the game. The presence of a retail box does not turn the product into a PS4 release or make it usable through a disc drive on unsupported hardware.
The purchase-format guide explains that distinction, while the existing edition comparison keeps the contents and commercial terms in one place.
Should a PS4 owner upgrade now?
There is no need to turn a compatibility answer into a hardware sales pitch. If GTA VI is your only reason to upgrade, first decide whether you want to play on a supported console or wait for more information about another platform. Then compare the full cost of the console, game and any storage you actually need.
Our PS5 versus Xbox Series X comparison focuses on known differences. It avoids recommending a machine on the strength of unannounced 60 FPS modes. Waiting for evidence is a reasonable decision if performance is the factor that would determine your purchase.
PC should not be treated as a dated fallback. The PC release guide explains the current announcement gap without predicting when a port must arrive. Rockstar’s supported-platform reference is the place to check if those plans change.
What would count as a real change?
An official Rockstar or PlayStation announcement naming a PS4 version would change this answer. A retailer placeholder, a fan-made box cover, a video title or a listing for an older Grand Theft Auto game would not. Check the full game name as well as the platform; GTA V availability is not evidence about GTA VI.
Quick questions
Will GTA 6 work on PS4 Pro?
No PS4 version is supported by the current announcement. PS4 Pro should not be confused with the supported PS5 Pro hardware.
Will a boxed copy solve the compatibility problem?
No. Packaging does not change the supported platform, and the announced Standard box contains a download code.
Has Rockstar explained a future PS4 port?
The sources checked here do not announce one. There is no factual basis for promising a later PS4 release.
