GTA 6 preview reports suggest two changes that returning players will notice quickly: sprinting on L3 and the PlayStation handbrake on X. The reports describe a different default layout, but do not establish the full set of controller options.

The sprint detail comes from creator MikeShowSha's preview Q&A, covered by Rockstar Report. Journal du Geek also reports the L3 and handbrake changes. These are accounts of the preview build rather than a published Rockstar control manual.

The reported layout

The central sprint change is the move away from repeated button taps to maintain speed. Accounts differ in how much they explain about starting and stopping a sprint, so it would be premature to promise one particular toggle behavior across the finished game's settings.

Why these two buttons matter

A stick press puts the sprint command on the same thumb already steering the character. After that initial press, a toggle setting could let the thumb move freely without continuing to hold another button. A hold setting would feel different, which is why the remaining options matter as much as the headline mapping.

The handbrake report concerns muscle memory in a different situation. A player accustomed to a shoulder-button handbrake would need to learn a face-button input during turns and pursuits. Journal du Geek connects that change with the allocation of controls for shooting while driving.

Neither report supplies a complete Xbox layout, an accessibility menu or proof that a classic preset is included. PlayStation button names should therefore stay attached to the PlayStation mapping until those details are available.

Controls also cannot tell us how much grip or body roll a car has. The separate driving-physics report covers Rockstar's stated handling goals.
