GTA 6's weapon-carrying system distinguishes between a gun you have with you and a gun other people can see you holding. Rob Nelson describes room for two concealed handguns and two long guns, with the latter remaining visible.
The details come from TGG's movement and weapons deep dive, reported by GamesRadar. Nelson says one long gun can sit on the character's back. Carrying a second puts it in the off hand; both cannot be hidden on the back.
How the reported setup works
| Equipment | Reported placement |
|---|---|
| Two handguns | Can remain concealed |
| One long gun | Can be carried on the back |
| Second long gun | Carried in the off hand |
Nelson also describes a distinction in civilian reactions. A long gun on the back is generally tolerated, while a gun held in the hand can cause people to move away. That is a description of more responsive behavior, not a guarantee that every person reacts identically.
Drawing a weapon changes the situation
This makes equipment visible before the first shot. A player approaching a conversation with a gun already drawn may affect the space around them without firing it.
It also creates a practical choice about what to bring. The maximum number of reported firearm slots is not necessarily the most discreet way to travel. A smaller loadout could be useful when the immediate purpose is talking, shopping or moving through a crowd.

Nelson relates the change to the world's greater visual and behavioral detail. His comparison with earlier GTA games is about believability, rather than a claim that a particular screen resolution requires these rules.
The interview does not provide a complete inventory specification for ammunition, explosives or melee weapons. For how recognition can affect an escape after an encounter escalates, see the crime-system analysis.
