GTA 6's Extended Look coincided with a sharp rise in estimated preorders, but the widely repeated 572% increase describes a change in the daily pace of orders. It does not mean the game's entire preorder total increased by that amount.

GTAvice.net reported Sensor Tower's analysis of the days around the August 27 presentation. The figures are modeled estimates, rather than sales disclosed by Rockstar or Take-Two.

Two headlines, two baselines

Reported changeWhat was compared
436% higherEstimated orders on August 27 against August 26
572% higherThe August 27 and 28 daily pace against the preceding 30-day average
606% higher on PS5August 27 against the previous day
127% higher on Xbox Series X|SAugust 27 against the previous day

A 572% increase produces a total rate 6.72 times the baseline: the original 100%, plus the additional 572%. That calculation explains the headline without supplying a missing unit count.

The platform split needs context

Sensor Tower's earlier tracker article already put PlayStation ahead, estimating 3.15 million PS5 preorders and 0.93 million Xbox preorders through July 20. GTAvice.net placed the combined estimate at roughly 4.55 million before the Extended Look.

Those snapshots describe different dates. Applying a two-day percentage jump to the cumulative 4.55 million would mix a daily rate with a running total and produce a misleading answer.

Likewise, the larger PS5 percentage does not by itself measure how many people switched platforms or bought a console because of the video. That would require different evidence.

What the spike tells us

The estimates suggest a strong immediate purchasing response around the showcase. A lasting change in demand would require the elevated pace to continue after those first days.

There is a separate report on UK console sales after the presentation. Hardware sales, estimated game orders and streaming views all describe audience activity, but each uses its own market, period and measurement.
